Learn & Grow
- Children -
MUMC Children’s Ministry believes that children are at the heart of a vital, growing church. Our goal is to teach children about God’s love and grace at an early age. Our ministry team partners with parents to guide children’s spiritual development and nurture them throughout childhood, perpetuating a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as well as an understanding of the Methodist faith. We care about safety, so all Children’s Ministry staff and ministry partners are required to complete Safe Sanctuary training, which includes a background check. We greatly appreciate all of the many ministry partners who make our Children’s Ministry possible.

10:30 AM Children’s Church
During Traditional Worship Service, following “A Moment with Young Disciples”, children will go to room A105 for our Children’s Church program. Leaders provide a Christ-centered lesson, an activity, and a light snack. Children’s Church is a multi-age-level program, staffed by gracious and caring ministry partners. The children spend approximately twenty minutes engaged in Children’s Church activities, then return to the Sanctuary during the last hymn.
Acolytes
Acolytes serve our church at the 8:00 and 10:30 worship services. Children entering third grade and older may become Acolytes. An Acolyte’s duties include participation in worship service, carrying the light which represents God’s presence, assisting the Pastor in Communion service, as well as other duties. Those interested in becoming an Acolyte may contact the Director of Children’s Ministry for more information.
Confirmation
Confirmation is an experience, not just a class. Confirmation is the place where the church can connect young people to God, the church, and friends. Confirmation classes are available beginning in early February each year. Young disciples, mostly middle school aged, will attend classes and preform ten hours of service. On the day of Pentecost, they will profess their faith. These youth will stand before the congregation and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. They will promise to uphold the United Methodist Church by their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. Confirmation is a crucial point in the life of a young person. It is a time when the church strengthens their relationships with these young disciples: Relationships between parent and child, mentoring relationships, personal relationship with God, relationships between youth and their peers. All of these relationships are important as these young disciples continue their faith journey beyond confirmation. We cannot possibly teach everything a young person needs to know in any number of classes. Building relationships will equip them for the journey to continue growing in faith.
